We are excited to release a couple of our all time favourites this weekend. Not one, but two Double IPAs, because why not?
Space Armadillo was one of the first creations in our “White Can Brewers Series” and carries by far the biggest following of this series. Our white can series is a small batch beer series that was born because our brewers wanted to experiment and create forward-thinking and exciting beer. What started out as an experimental line for us, quickly became the philosophy behind our brewery and won us the Innovator of the Year Award at the 2017 BC Beer Awards.
Space Armadillo is a DIPA is brewed with Sacch-Trois yeast then double dry hopped with Galaxy and Amarillo hops. it pours a hazy blond colour with heavy notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Some Brett-like flavours blend with the hops to add complexity and juiciness. Expect big flavours and a dangerously crushable beer at 8% ABV
This beer carries a couple of big firsts for us, the first beer we made with Sacch Trois. This is a strain of yeast that was originally misidentified as Brettanomyces because it looks and acts like Brett (a genus of yeast considered to be wild because of the funky aromas and flavours), yet it is simply a strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae that produces a lot of tropical esters. Space Armadillo was also the first Double IPA we ever made!
When it comes time to name our hoppy brews, our team has a lot of fun. Not only do we have a a good time coming up with these names, but we also know a lot of consumers will purchase beers based on the creativity of clever beer names, and that the name can have a lasting impact. Space Armadillo came about from the hop combination used; Galaxy and Amarillo.
Bachelor Pad is the second DIPA we are releasing this weekend. We used our favourite hop combo on this one, Citra, Mosaic, & Simcoe in a mixture of both pellets and lupulin powder. Two massive dry hops give this beer a huge hop forward aroma and flavour with big notes of citrus, pineapple, mango and a little bit of dank.
This beer won us Gold in the double IPA category of the 2017 BC Beer Awards (we swept the Double IPAs that year, with Kicking and Speakers and Beach Week coming in second and third).
Our brewers are excited to continue creating boundary-pushing brews by constantly innovating, collaborating, rediscovering and reinventing, and having a great time doing it.
